The mineralizing capacity of the deep microbial ecosystems remains until now poorly constrained despite the fact that they constitute a source of unexplored recoverable materials. The huge diversity and variability of microbial metabolisms and the capacity of microbes to interact with a large variety of elements and mineral has opened up the possibility of vast resources. Based on our knowledge on microbial metabolisms and on the mechanisms involved in their interaction with mineral phases (nucleation, growth and alteration), we aim at implementing analogical modeling of relevant processes leading the formation of bio-induced minerals at low energetic cost. We will particularly focus on carbonates that are of interest for in-situ and ex-situ CCS purposes but also as potential biomarkers in the rock record.
