  INSU-IPGP Ocean-Bottom Seismometers (OBS)

INSU-IPGP Ocean-Bottom Seismometers (OBS) placed on sea and ocean floors independently record acoustic and seismic waves. The origin of these signals can be natural, generated by earthquakes, or artificial, produced by sources such as compressed air cannons.

These devices, which are available to the entire French scientific community, can be used to locate earthquakes or to determine the structure of layers beneath the ocean floor.
