Atmospheric gravity waves (GWs) are small-scale waves whose restoring force is buoyancy (gravity). They propagate far from the source region and put significant amount of momentum in the atmosphere. Thus, GWs play very important roles on the general circulation in the planetary atmosphere. In the past decade, I have studied GW radiation from geophysical flows in the simplified rotating shallow water systems. The theory of aeroacoustic sound wave radiation (Lighthill theory) could be extended with including the effect of the Earth's rotation. Recently, I have derived analytical estimate which indicates cyclone-anticyclone asymmetry in GWs. The result is also confirmed by the newly developed numerical model. In the presentation, general motivations and my related works are briefly introduced.
