Subduction zones are one of the most prominent signals in satellite-based magnetic maps of the lithosphere, both oceanic and continental. The Comprehensive modeling paradigm, developed by Sabaka and colleagues at Goddard Space Flight Center and internationally, aims to coestimate a host of magnetic source geometries. It’s most current implementation is with CM5 (Sabaka et al., GJI, 2015). One of the strengths of the approach is that it does not suppress along-track signals, and this has been instrumental in deciphering tectonics in north-south oriented zones. We illustrate with some examples.
