The area of the Indian Ocean around la Réunion Island due to the presence of a plum, and the oceanic ridge is a very fascinating zone for the geophysical phenomena. Unfortunately the limitated instrumental coverage has never allowed to have a plenary knowledge on the deeper crust and the mantle structure. The RHUM-RUM project had the unique possibility to deploy for almost one year, 57 OBS (Ocean Bottom Seismometer) stations in an area of about 2000 km x 2000 km of the Indian Ocean centered on the Plum under La Réunion Island. With the opportunity to use also some additional land stations placement in Madagascar, La Reunion and the Iles Eparses, and thanks to the agreements for data sharing with U.S. MACOMO project (Madagascar, Mozambique and Comores) we gained access to a huge seismic dataset.
This makes the RHUM-RUM the most extensive project organized to study this area in Indian Ocean.
This thesis have the objective to obtain the tomography of the upper mantle and the crust of the area centered in la Réunion island, to study the velocity anomalies especially those concerning the plum and the oceanic ridge , by a Earthquakes-Noise data analysis.
