Modelisation of gravity-led process in torrential context for related risk assessment

Résumé: 

In torrential areas, the geomorphological context, mass transfers, flows and impacts on deposit zones are extremely variable and complex. Some of the process at stake are well understood independently of one another. In order to reproduce them, heuristic, statistical or numerical methods are used. However the models are generally applied to a single event or on small sectors a few square kilometers wide.
This PhD is co-funded by the BRGM and the DGPR. It aims at proposing :
• A state of the art regarding numerical models currently used, their performances, limits and capacity of numercial integration
• One or several coupled modelisation solutions in order to simulate mass transfer from slopes to the outflow of a watershed
• A method to map the propagation hazard for landslides using numerical methods, at the valley scale
Results will be confronted to field data to assess robustness and uncertainties in the methodology. This work thus seeks to provide decision-makers with quantitative tools to support them for land development in torrential areas.
