The objectives of the National Magnetic Observatory at "Chambon-la-Foret" are multiple:

-It is a magnetic observatory from the network INTERMAGNET.
-It is the control center for data management and processing for all the observatories managed by the BCMT.
-It is a research center in geomagnetism
-It is a research center in magnetic instrumentation
-It is a place of reference for the calibration of the sensors (for the satellites, industry...).
-It is training center for the personnel of the IPGP observatories, hence a place of international co-operation.
