Trans-Atlantic Imaging of Lithosphere-Asthenosphere Boundary (Trans-Atlantic iLAB)
The European Research Council (ERC), has awarded an ERC Advanced Grant to Professor Satish Singh of the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP), to study the oceanic lithosphere down to its base, at up to 100 km depth using ultra-deep seismic reflection data.

Imaging of the Lithosphere - Asthenosphere Boundary
To better understand the transition from the rigid plate (lithosphere) to weak, highly viscous material within the mantle (astenosphere) and how it evolves over the time, scienist from four international institutions have been conducting different geophysical studies at the equatorial Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
The British Natural Environmental Research Council and an ERC granted to Dr. Kate Rychert to collect data using 30 broadband seismometer to charaterise the large scale velocity structure of the upper mantle, and possibly image the LAB using receiver function technique.
LITHOS
National Science Foundation has awarded a grant to Professor Steve Constable to conduct magnetotelluric study in the same area.
AT SCRIPPS INSTITUTION OF OCEANOGRAPHY
Refraction data acquisition providing velocity information that to characterize the velocity structure down to 20-30 km depth will be conducted by Ingo Gravemeyer from GEOMAR.
