Would you like to do a Ph.D or postdoc in Paris, France?
If you are an independent student looking for a master, thesis, or postdoc position in the area of planetary geophysics, please feel free to contact me.
Master projects
Master projects that I am proposing will be advertised on the IPGP web site. Even though I might advertise for a certain project, it is quite possible that I could construct a different one if you have a specific idea or interest in mind. If you would like to do a Ph.D. in our lab, please be aware that it is very useful to first do a master thesis with us.
Postdocs
For most postdoc positions in Europe, it is up to the applicant to apply directly to the funding organization. Thus, even though I am always looking for post docs, I will not advertise for such positions. Grants can be found from several sources, including CNES, CNRS, the city of Paris, foreign embassies, and several independent research organizations (see below). If you are interested, contact me, and we will work together to find the best available option. Please note that many of these positions have application deadlines in the early spring.
What projects am I working on now?
I am currently involved with the Chandrayaan-1 X-ray Spectrometer (Moon), BepiColumbo Laser Altimeter (Mercury), Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (Moon), and the ExoMars Heat Flow and Physical Properties Package (HP3). I am also actively working with localized spectral analysis and wavelet problems on the sphere, gravity and topography problems, the heat flow of the Moon, and the cratering history of the terrestrial planets.
Do I need to be able to speak English (or French)?
While I am more than happy to speak French at work, I will expect you to be capable of communicating in English. You will need to present your results and answer questions at scientific conferences, as well as write scientific articles, all in English. I will not act as a grammar or spelling corrector. As for speaking French, your life would be made a lot easier in Paris if you knew some, or if you were at least interested in learning.
