The formation and long-term evolution of primordial crusts are key processes in the early evolution of terrestrial planets. I will present my research project that aims to develop a physical model for crust formation, differentiation, and evolution, from magma ocean solidification and mantle melting to the formation of differentiated crustal provinces such as Earth’s continents. The approach investigates crystal flotation and melt extraction, the formation of thick crustal regions, and their role in mantle dynamics, surface processes, and secondary melting. Numerical modeling, structured around 1D thermal evolution, global mantle convection, melt transport, and lithosphere deformation, is used within a comparative planetology approach constrained by Bayesian inversion of terrestrial and planetary data.
