Characterization of organic matter and impacts of global change: The case study of high latitudes

Organic matter (OM) is central to carbon (C) and nutrient (nitrogen, phosphorus, etc.) cycles. OM influences agronomic soil fertility and plays a key role in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Its great composition diversity and high reactivity make it a complex object to study and characterize, and our understanding of its involvement in various geochemical processes remains to be perfected.

My research aims to gain a better understanding of the links between OM sources, their properties, the interactions between the different compartments, and the impact of anthropogenic activities on them. Therefore, I studied different OM fractions, particularly solid and dissolved OM (DOM) from soils or Arctic and sub-Arctic plants. To this end, I have combined innovative OM characterization methods to obtain complementary information on the latter (3D Fluorescence, UV-Vis spectroscopy, high-resolution mass spectrometry, 13C-CP MAS NMR). During this seminar, I will present the results of my past work, the research projects I am currently involved in, and the potential associated prospects.
