  Post-doctoral position in magnetic sounding of planetary subsurface oceans

• Contract: 1 year full time contract to be filled from 1st September 2022. Remuneration according to prior experience from €2553 gross per month.

• Missions: the post-doctoral researcher will join a project aiming at evaluating and exploiting the magnetic field signature generated in subsurface oceans of planetary systems such as the icy moons of Jupiter. The missions will consist in simulating the flows in subsurface oceans together with the magnetic induction within the neighboring magnetic field of Jupiter, in order to understand their dynamics and predict the magnetic signatures that will be collected by the upcoming space missions set to reach these planetary objects within the current decade.

• Activities: the post-doctoral researcher will undertake three-dimensional numerical modelling of planetary subsurface ocean flow dynamics, in the continuation of previous theoretical and numerical advances. In a realistic modelling configuration, he/she will construct synthetic products that will mimic the magnetic data that will be recorded by upcoming satellite missions. He/she will investigate the feasibility of reconstructing the flow from realistic synthetic data. The post-doctoral researcher will therefore leverage on the leading-edge expertise of IPGP in the numerical simulation of planetary flows and in advanced techniques for solving geomagnetic inverse problems.
