In this talk, I will present some results from my previous work (PhD thesis and postdoc) on the analysis of fault zones structures on Earth based on surface fault traces and high resolution earthquake location. I will show how some generic fault properties (ie, damage zone, fault structural maturity) can have an impact on the earthquake behaviour (ie. location of largest slip, rupture velocity). I will also present how high resolution earthquake catalogs can be useful to characterise the degree of evolution of strike-slip fault zones.
