Université de Paris, which was created by the merger in 2019 of the former universities of Paris Descartes and Paris Diderot and the integration of the IPGP, has adopted a model that is both original and respectful of the university spirit. Its project: to build and implement a unified collective strategic vision and to build a deconcentrated organisation, with large autonomous faculties.

The integration of the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris as a component of the University of Paris follows a long history with the former University of Paris Diderot and allows for a long-term strategic perspective. In particular, the university has delegated all of its earth, environmental and planetary science courses to the IPGP. This integration also represents a unique opportunity to reinforce the attractiveness of the IPGP and that of the Earth, environmental and planetary sciences, and to open up further to multidisciplinary approaches in conjunction with the university's three faculties.
This association is formalised by a contract of objectives and ressources between the University of Paris and the IPGP. This contract, revised annually, ensures a coherent policy for teaching and research at the level of the University of Paris by providing a medium and long term perspective, both in terms of objectives and ressources allocated by the two institutions.
