About me
Milena Marjanović
I am a Marine Geophysicist, interested in exploring Plate Tectonics, in particular mid-ocean ridges using geophysical methods. My work has involved acquisition, processing and interpretation of 2D and 3D seismic reflection data. I am especially interested in looking at the processes that control past and present melt distribution along the ridges (e.g. the phenomenon of ridge propagation; hotspot-ridge interaction; relationship between melt distribution and morphological ridge characteristics). My current work is focused on providing high resolution velocity models of the oceanic crust formed at the East Pacific Rise using waveform modeling.
Languages: Serbian (mother tongue), English (native), Spanish (native), French (advanced), Italian (intermediate), Russian (writing skills), Japanese (basic – level N5-N4 in Japanese system of evaluation).

* 22/05/2013 – 11/09/2014
For proper balance between my personal and professional life, after finishing PhD I decided to return to Europe (my close family members reside in Serbia and my partner is currently living and working in France). To create opportunities for continuing the path of a researcher in Marine Geophysics and during the period between 22/05/2013 – 11/09/2014 I worked on the following aspects:
a)Extending academic network: I have established contacts with researchers in Europe: e.g. Anne Briais at the Observatoire Midi-Pyrenees, Toulouse; Satish Singh, Nobuaki Fuji, Mathilde Cannat at IPGP; Heidrun Kopp at GEOMAR, who invited me to give talks at their institutions (see the list of talks).
b)Participation in a research cruise. I participated in the international (Europe-USA) Galicia 3D survey as a Co-PI. The cruise was led by Dale Sawyer from Rice University – USA, César Ranero from Barcelona Center for Subsurface Imaging - Spain and Tim Reston from Birmingham University – UK.
c)Dissemination of PhD work:
-Conferences: I have participated in two conferences - EAGE conference in London (Europe) and AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco (USA).
-Publications: I have been preparing articles for publication (the articles are result of my PhD work):
1. “A multi-sill magma plumbing system beneath the axis of the East Pacific Rise” has been accepted by Nature Geoscience and is expected to be in press shortly;
2. “Distribution of melt along the East Pacific Rise from 9º30′ to 10ºN from an amplitude variation with angle of incidence (AVA) technique” is going to be submitted to Geophysical Journal International by the end of September.
d)Language skills: I significantly improved speaking and writing skills in French (foremost professional – Geology/Geophysics) and have started studying Japanese.
e)Improving photography and design skills: I took advanced online courses for Adobe Illustrator (in English) and I have been taking online Photography Expert courses (in French).
