resume: An efficient numerical model for simulating plume-dominated convection is developed under a flexible finite-volume method. This method enables to activate fine-scale finite volumes as convection locally develops and deactivate them when the events are over, so that a numerically efficient simulation of convective evolution is achieved. The model is developed primarily for simulating atmospheric convection, but it is equally applicable to geophysical convection. Thus, in presenting this talk, the similarities between atmospheric and geophysical convection is also emphasized.
