At some rifted margins, oceanic crust with a typical seismic velocity structure appears to be juxtaposed directly against thinned continental crust. However, at magma-poor margins sepentinised mantle is often present beneath thinned continental crust and may also be exhumed to the seabed, sometimes over broad regions. I will present results from seismic experiments to explore such regions in a variety of locations. The seaward limit of the zone of exhumed mantle is often ill-defined, leaving plenty of scope for further exploration.
NOTE: This seminar will be held on zoom but may also be delivered in person in room 310 for those onsite at IPGP - Ilot Cuvier.
