Geophysical data support the presence of a ~4000 km-sized and 200-500 km-thick active mantle plume below Elysium Planitia on Mars. This indicates that the Martian interior is geodynamically active and drives the volcanic and seismic activity of the region. Analysis of the measurements from the InSight lander, located there, needs to consider the presence of the plume.
