Abstract:
In polycrystalline materials (here, metals), the microstructure is well-known to drive the macroscopic response. First, we will consider assessing thermomechanical couplings at the microstructural scale in an attempt to link thermal effects to plasticity-induced damage at the scale where it manifests. However, achieving a complete link would require an experimental/numerical dialog and we will see that using polycrystal-related experimental data as input in numerical models in not straightforward. Hence, a framework is developed to correctly handle orientation and misorientation data and to treat it statistically. These tools are further used to study the parameters at play in plastic localization.
