The Siberian Traps emplacement 251.95 million years ago and the end-Permian mass extinction were synchronized. Here we present results from model simulations of the Siberian Traps volcanic degassing for which we recreated as realistically as possible the effusive degassing as well as the contact metamorphism degassing from the emplacement of sills in the Tunguska basin. The environmental consequences of the reconstructed emissions sequences were simulated using the
biogeochemical model GEOCLIM. We investigate the short- and long-term processes related to volatile emissions on ocean temperature and pH, as well as the disruptions in the carbon, oxygen, phosphorus, and alkalinity cycles, and we show that metamorphism and biosphere feedbacks play key roles.
