Natural Hazards

By combining several approaches, study of major issues such as eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides or magnetic storms.

Natural Hazards

Understanding the origin and functioning of volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides and magnetic storms is a major challenge for understanding the associated hazards and risks. These natural phenomena are the result of geological processes occurring on various time and space scales, and their analysis covers almost all the branches of the Earth sciences. Their study at the IPGP combines field approaches (continuous or punctual observations and measurements, in observatories, during sea campaigns, etc.), observations from space, laboratory studies and analyses of samples, as well as theoretical modelling.
