Coupling between granular flow models and wave propagation models

Résumé: 

The seismic waves generated by landslides may have an effect on landslide dynamics. This effect has frequently be invoked to explain the high mobility of large landslides.
It has however never been quantified. The challenge of this PhD is to couple granular flow models and acoustic wave propagation codes to quantify the effect of
the waves generated by the flow on the flow dynamics itself. This work will be performed through a collaboration between mathematicians, geophysicists and physicists within
the framework of the ERC project SLIDEQUAKES.
