MATLAB is widely used by thousands of geo-scientists and engineers in academia and industry working on many different applications, including geospatial data analysis and visualization, signal and image processing, machine/deep learning, among others. During this seminar I will show how to use MATLAB’s versatile platform to perform data and geodata pre-processing, advanced analysis and visualization, oriented towards Geoscience disciplines, focusing on Geophysics and Seismology. The presentation will include demonstration of examples and applications that will cover some of the following topics:
• What's new – updated and new features relevant to Earth Scientists
• Import, manage and preprocess geospatial data with MATLAB
• Programming in MATLAB with minimal manual coding, using existing Apps
• Using MATLAB for seismological workflows
• Using MATLAB for signal processing
• Using the Mapping Toolbox
• Interaction of MATLAB with other languages (e.g., Python) and other programming environments (e.g., Jupyter)
• Sharing and reuse codes, workflows and results with MATLAB
About the presenter: Kostas Leptokaropoulos is the Geoscience Academic Manager at MathWorks, Cambridge, UK. An Environmental engineer with a PhD in Seismology, he empowers academics and researchers to leverage MATLAB in their teaching and research. He served as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, contributing to European projects like EPOS and SERA. He is also a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Southampton.
