Chemical composition and properties of stained glasses: rediscovering the glassmaking processes
This thesis project proposes to study the stained glass windows available at the Musée de Cluny, covering a wide period (12th-15th centuries). Using a multi-technique approach with portable instruments (XRF, optical and Raman spectroscopy), measurements of the composition, optical properties and structure of these stained glass windows will be made. This will provide a database of variations in chemical composition over time, which should make it possible to trace the provenance of the raw materials.
