ANR SUBSILAKE – english version

Start: 01/01/2022 - End: 31/12/2025

National partnership

Coordinators : Magali Ader

The ANR SUBSILAKE is an interdisciplinary project funded for 4 years (2022-2025) by the French National Research Agency (ANR). It is led by Magali Ader, a member of our team, and involves researchers from five French laboratories: the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (IPGP), the Laboratory of Ecology of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems (ECOSYM), the Natural History Museum (MNHN), the University of Lyon and the LIENs laboratory of the University of La Rochelle.

The objective of this project is to study the physico-chemical and biological response of a volcanic crater lake, the Dziani Dzaha (on the island of Petite Terre in the archipelago of Mayotte), to an increase in magmatic bubbling in its waters, since the birth of a submarine volcano east of Petite Terre. Our team had already shown that before the establishment of this volvan the lake presented many analogies with some Precambrian environments (two short videos report this work: https://vimeo.com/suruneile/dziani and https://vimeo.com/suruneile/dco2). The study of its response to the current disturbance could therefore provide not only key information on ecosystems resilience but also provide many insights into the parameters controlling Precambrian environments.

For further information, feel free to contact Magali Ader.
