Submarine Volcanism: The Case of Mayotte in the Spotlight in Our Next Twitch Live!

After a first live dedicated to space missions and sample returns, and a second exploring the world of deep-sea microorganisms, the IPGP invites you once again to join us on Wednesday, July 23rd from 5:00 PM for a brand-new live session on Twitch!

Submarine Volcanism: The Case of Mayotte in the Spotlight in Our Next Twitch Live!

Publication date: 09/07/2025

Events, Research

This time, we’ll dive into a fascinating phenomenon: submarine volcanism, with a special focus on volcanic activity east of Mayotte, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean.

To explore this topic, we’ll have the pleasure of speaking with:

  • Valentine Puzenat, PhD student in marine geosciences at the IPGP, who works on characterizing submarine volcanic structures in Mayotte.

  • Maud Devès, lecturer at Université Paris Cité, affiliated with the IPGP and the Institute for Humanities, Sciences and Societies (IHSS), who specializes in risk governance, the role of scientists and the media in crisis situations, and the psychological dimensions of our relationship with the environment.

This live session will be a unique opportunity to better understand how these underwater volcanoes are born, how island populations perceive their impacts, and how scientists work from the surface.

📺 Join us live on our Twitch channel to ask your questions, engage with IPGP researchers, and dive into the behind-the-scenes world of scientific research!
